Nutrition Services
For people with bleeding disorders, being overweight increases the risk of developing joint disease and range-of-motion limitations. Moreover, excess body weight leads to higher dosing of clotting factor and, ultimately, higher costs to the individual and insurance plan. Exercise and a proper diet are therefore important factors in maintaining good joint health, long-term mobility and financial well-being. For patients co-afflicted with HIV/AIDS, good nutrition lays the foundation for long-term health.
At Coram, factor therapy and good nutrition go side-by-side. Every office in the Coram branch network is staffed with a licensed dietitian. With a physician's order, Coram offers patients the opportunity for one-on-one counseling on weight loss or general nutrition. In addition, Coram offers free group education sessions to local chapters and consumer groups. Contact your Coram Hemophilia Services representative for details.
