Comprehensive Care

Is your annual appointment scheduled for this year with your hemophilia treatment center (HTC)? Have you missed your scheduled appointment?

If you answered yes to the first question, that’s great. Just remember to attend. If you answered yes to the second question, please reschedule it soon…It’s important.

Why should you attend Comprehensive Clinic or have an annual exam by your physician?
It is a team approach to providing optimal care for the person with hemophilia and the family. The following points will be covered:

  • Bleeding episodes:
This is where your infusion log will be useful to the staff. They will be looking for possible “target” bleed areas (joints that experience frequent repeat bleeds).
  • Joints and muscle evaluation:
The physical therapist will be looking at function, tightness and strength. If a target area appears, an exercise program will be given to prevent increased damage to joints and muscles.
  • Psychosocial concerns:
The staff will help with problems with finances, insurance, school and child care.
  • New prescription for your home care company:
Changes in dosage will be made based on weight and the need for any other changes in the treatment plan.
